Tillandsia ionantha is native to Central America and Mexico as well as some of South America. Ionantha’s start off as a small plant with green and silver-hued leaves. As the plant grows and matures, the leaves begin to extend outward, while turning to a deeper shade of green.
Once the Ionantha begins to start its bloom cycle, the leaves start to turn to a beautiful red/pink color. This is what attracts the pollinator to the flower which will come out purple.
The Ionantha varieties love sunlight so they should be kept in an area that gets adequate light throughout the day.We recommend soaking the plant once a week or misting them a few times a week.
